A RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 87-184, AS AMENDED, TO
AMEND THE FINE SCHEDULE FOR VIOLATION OF CHAPTER 6 (ANIMALS), ST.
LUCIE COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES AND COMPILED LAWS; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. On September 29, 1987, the Board adopted Resolution No. 98-184, which established
penalties for violations of Article II (Animal Control) of Chapter 1-4 of the St. Lucie County Code of
Ordinances and Compiled Laws.
2. On September 27, 1994, the Board Resolution No. 94-210 which established penalties for
violations of provisions added to Article II of Chapter 1-4 pursuant to Ordinance No. 94-05.
3. On July 23, 2002, the Board adopted Resolution No. 02-84 which increased penalties for
violation of Article II of Chapter 1-4 to reflect the increased cost of providing animal control services.
4. On April 3, 2007, the Board adopted Ordinance No. 97-010 which established a
registration requirement for dogs and cats in the unincorporated areas of the County effective October 1,
2007.
5. On August 28, 2007, the Board adopted Resolution No. 07-225 which increased the
penalties for violation of Article II to reflect the increased cost of providing animal control services.
6. On November 27, 2007, the Board adopted Resolution No. 07-369 which further
established a penalty for failure to register an animal.
7. On June 17, 2014, the Board adopted Resolution No. 14-093 which further established
penalties for failure to comply with animal shelter standards adopted by the Board.
8. On August 12, 2014, the Board adopted Ordinance No. 14-020 which recodified the St.
Lucie County Code of Ordinances and Complied Laws, including but not limited to Chapter 1-4 which was
recodified as Chapter 6.
9. On September 15, 2015, the Board adopted Ordinance No. 15-12 which further amended
Chapter 6, "Animals", of the St. Lucie County Code of Ordinances and Compiled Laws in the areas of
dangerous dog classification, aggressive animal classification, animal care standards and guard
registration and care.
10. It is appropriate and necessary to further amend the penalties established under
Resolution No. 87-184, as amended, to reflect the new section numbers set forth In Ordinance No. 14-
020, and to establish penalties for failure to comply with amendments set forth in Ordinance No. 15-12.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County,
Florida, Resolution No. 87-184, as amended, is hereby further amended as follows:
