A RESOLUTION HONORING PAULA A. LEWIS FOR HER FAITHFUL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL AND FOR HER OUTSTANDING
CITIZENSHIP THROUGH HER MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ST. LUCIE COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM
BY DEDICATING AND NAMING THE NEW BRANCH ON ROSSER BOULEVARD IN PORT ST. LUCIE, FL
AS "THE PAULA A. LEWIS BRANCH LIBRARY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Commissioner Paula A. Lewis has been a resident of St. Lucie County for more than 28 years,
living in Port St. Lucie. She was a small business owner in that community. She was elected to the
Port St. Lucie City Council in 1994 and served one term. In 1996, she was elected to the St. Lucie
County Board of County Commissioners and was re-elected in 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012.
2. Paula is active in the community both in professional and private capacities, and has served
on numerous Boards and Committees through the County and State level. As she completes her
fifth term as Commissioner, she has had a solid record of support for libraries and has served nine
years on the Library Advisory Board. In 2013, she voted to purchase and renovate the Rosser
Boulevard property and, most recently, voted to increase Library operating funds so that the new
Branch will be able to hire ten new library staff and operate as a full service branch library.
3. Paula also served on the Board of Directors of the Florida Association of Counties where she
was in one of the first groups to receive the designation of Certified County Commissioner through
the Florida Counties Foundation. She also holds the Advanced County Commissioner Certification
and served on the Florida Counties Foundation Board.
4. On a personal basis, she serves on the Salvation Army Advisory Committee, is an Alumni of
Leadership St. Lucie Class XIII, is a member of the Democratic Women's Club and is an Elder at All
Villages Presbyterian Church. She is the mother of two children, a daughter, Daphne, and a son,
Mark. Due to the untiring dedication by Paula A. Lewis to St. Lucie County, this Board believes that
Ms. Lewis should be honored in a very special way.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, in a meeting assembled this 22nd day of November,
2016 that the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, does hereby honor Paula
A. Lewis for her faithful and dedicated service to the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida by dedicating and naming the new branch on Rosser Boulevard in Port St. Lucie as
the "Paula A. Lewis Branch Library" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 22nd day of November 2016.
