A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2016 AS
"ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Alzheimer's is just one of many forms of dementia and there have been no successful
drugs for treatment since 2012.
2. Florida has 10% of the nation's population that is suffering with a neurocognitive disorder.
3. Nearly 3.8 million family care givers in Florida help their senior family members who have
a neurocognitive disorder.
4. 10,000 families live in St. Lucie County who must cope with the disease process daily.
5. It is important that the safety and well-being of Alzheimer's families living in our local
communities is preserved, as well as their dignity and quality of life, and that services and
resources are accessible to all cultures.
6. This Board extends its gratitude to those advocates and service providers, including
Alzheimer's Community Care and the Alzheimer's Association Southeast Florida Chapter,
who provide vital care and support, value the need for dementia -specific care, and
support Alzheimer's families, as well as a cure for Alzheimer's patients.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim the month of November 2016 as "ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
AWARENESS MONTH" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to learn more about Alzheimer's disease
and attend educational events that are free and open to the public during Alzheimer's
Disease Awareness Month in St. Lucie County, Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 1St day of November 2016.
