A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE ST. LUCIE COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT FOR
SAVING THE ST. LUCIE COUNTY SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING FACILITY IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY FL
FROM TOTAL DEVASTATION DUE TO THEIR EXPERTISE AND QUICK RESPONSE
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. St. Lucie County, Florida has increased participation in its recycling collections by over 50%
since switching from dual residential recycling collections to single stream recycling in May
of 2014. Single stream recycling refers to a system in which both the collection and
processing systems are designed to handle all recyclables such as paper, plastics, metals
and other containers.
2. Around noon on Sunday, November 6, 2016, a large multi-million dollar machine that sorts
and compacts the county's recyclable materials caught fire.
3. The quick response of firefighters from the St. Lucie County Fire District saved the Single
Stream Recycling Facility from total devastation.
4. St. Lucie County is grateful to the St. Lucie County Fire District for their promptness and
expertise in putting out this fire.
5. St. Lucie County wishes to recognize and commend so many fire-fighters including District
Chief Kyle Stirrat, Battalion Chief Warren Millard, Field Training Captain Chad Crouse,
Station 3/13 -Shift Crew, Station 4/13 Shift Crew, Station 6/13 Shift Crew, Station 11/B Shift
Crew, Station 12/13 Shift Crew, Station 14/13 Shift Crew and Station 17/B Shift Crew.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby recognize and commend the St. Lucie County Fire District for saving
the St. Lucie County Single Stream Facility from total devastation due to their expertise and
quick response.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution shall be presented to the St. Lucie
County Fire District as a token of this Board's appreciation.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 6th day of December 2016.
