A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 19, 2017 AS
"GFWC PORT ST. LUCIE WOMAN'S CLUB DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) was organized on April 24, 1890 with
twelve charter members. "UNITY IN DIVERSITY" has remained the motto of the club
which is attuned to world and community needs and will encourage deeper involvement
and increased volunteerism in future years.
2. With over 80,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state and more than a dozen
countries, GFWC members are Community leaders who work locally to create global
change by supporting the arts, advancing education, promoting healthy lifestyles,
encouraging civic involvement, and working toward world peace. Their conservation
efforts resulted in the establishment of four National Parks, one being Everglades
National Park. GFWC continues its tradition of addressing social issues affecting women
and families through programs that combat violence against women and promote human
rights.
3. Florida Federation of Women's Club was organized on February 21, 1895 in Green Cove
Springs, Florida with this statement of purpose: "the Florida Federation of Women's Clubs
has one objective, namely to bring the women's clubs into acquaintance and mutual
helpfulness. All member clubs must be free from sectarian or political bias."
4. The GFWC Port St. Lucie Woman's Club, Inc. was organized on March 12, 1975. The Club
will celebrate its' Forty Second Birthday Anniversary on April 19, 2017 at the annual
general meeting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida that this Board does hereby proclaim April 19, 2017 as "GFWC PORT ST. LUCIE
WOMAN'S CLUB DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida. We hereby extend sincere gratitude to the
dedicated members of the Club for their commitment to the people of St. Lucie County.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 2nd day of May 2017.
