A RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF PLACE OF HOPE,
SUPPORTING THEIR EXPANSION INTO ST. LUCIE COUNTY AND PROCLAIMING APRIL 2018 AS
"CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Place of Hope is dedicated to providing a stable and loving family environment for children
who are hurting. They are committed to meeting the desperate needs in our community and strive
to foster hope rather than despair, potential rather than limitations, healing rather than hurting,
belonging rather than isolation, and what the future can be, rather than what the past has been.
2. The children, who find themselves in Place of Hope's care, at no fault of their own, are there
as a result of heinous abuse, neglect, exploitation and trafficking. Since February of 2015, Place of
Hope has witnessed over 140 children placed into loving foster families, licensed 43 foster families
and seen 14 foster -adoptions.
3. Place of Hope is celebrating their Third Anniversary and are expanding their efforts into St.
Lucie County with their outstanding community supporter and partner, GL Homes.
4. Research shows that safe and nurturing relationships and stimulating and stable environments
improve brain development and child well-being, while neglectful or abusive experiences and
unstable or stressful environments increase the odds of poor childhood outcomes. The abuse and
neglect of children can cause severe, costly and lifelong problems, including physical and mental
health problems, school failure and criminal behavior, which affect all of society.
5. Research also shows that parents and caregivers who have social networks and know how to
seek help in times of trouble are more resilient and better able to provide safe environments and
nurturing experiences for their children.
6. Individuals, businesses, schools, and faith -based and community organizations must make
children a top priority and take action to support the physical, social, emotional, and educational
development and competency of all children.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby congratulate Place of Hope on their Third Anniversary and their
expansion into St. Lucie County and further, proclaim April 2018 as "CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION
MONTH" in St. Lucie County, Florida. This Board urges all residents to engage in activities whose
purpose is to strengthen families and communities to provide the optimal environment for healthy
child development.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 6th day of March 2018.
