A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 5, 2004,
THROUGH APRIL 11,2004, AS "PUBLIC HEALTH
WEEK" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners ofSt. Lucie County, Florida, has
made the following determinations:
1. For the past eight years, the American Public Health Association (APHA)
has sponsored National Public Health Week (NPHW) across the United States.
2. This year, National Public Health Week will focus on raising awareness of
eliminating health disparities.
3. The tagline is "Eliminating Health Disparities: Communities Moving from
Statistics to Solutions" and numerous organizations are working to raise awareness
about this important issue and highlighting programs that are working to close the
gap in health disparities.
4. These disparities are one of the top priorities of both the Governor and
Florida Department of Health.
5. National Public Health week is an opportunity to educate and inform, to
encourage increased community involvement, and to focus on the unity of our
concerns for a healthier quality of life.
6. During Public Health Week, the St. Lucie County Health Department has
partnered with Weed and Seed of St. Lucie County to sponsor health screenings for
a targeted population at a community festival in an effort to continue to close the
gap on health disparities in St. Lucie County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
St. Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim April 5, 2004, through April 11,2004, as
"PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to participate in the
activities scheduled to promote Public Health Week in St. Lucie County.
