HomeMy WebLinkAbout18-058A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 21, 2018 AS "EARTH DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. A healthy environment is the cornerstone of a thriving community and vigorous local economy. State and local communities can lead the way in taking such steps to protect and preserve our natural resources by encouraging sustainable energy and water consumption, land -use, transportation practices, and waste reduction. 2. St. Lucie County, as reflected in its mission statement, strategic objectives and conservation initiatives, values its natural resources as an integral part of its authentic identity. 3. While awareness and celebration of natural resources are part of our community fabric every day, Earth Day offers citizens a unique opportunity to make a commitment to personal practices that will be vital in protecting the quality of human and other life for generations to come. 4. The County, along with the City of Ft. Pierce and the City of Port St. Lucie, are hosting the 14th Annual Earth Day Festival at the Oxbow Eco -Center on April 21, 2018 from 10am to 3pm. 5. Achieving the County's strategic vision will require continued leadership and actions on environmental issues, and the celebration of Earth Day promotes and serves this end. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby proclaim April 21, 2018 as "EARTH DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida. 2. This Board does encourage all citizens to use this day to learn about the environment and take actions to protect and celebrate these resources. PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 17th day of April 2018.
