A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MAY 2018 AS
"MYOSITIS AWARENESS MONTH" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Myositis is a rare chronic and degenerative disease that includes polymyositis,
dermatomyositis, juvenile dermatomyositis, and inclusion -body myositis, causing muscle
inflammation and weakness and the degeneration of skeletal muscle tissues and other
serious skin and organ complications over the course of several weeks, months or years.
2. There are currently more than 75,000 diagnosed cases of myositis in the United States, and
there is no known cure for myositis, public education leading to early diagnosis and
treatment are important.
3. The Myositis Association is committed to improving the life of those affected by
inflammatory myopathies by supporting and educating patients and doctors and by
promoting research into the causes, better diagnoses, treatments and a cure for myositis.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim the month of May, 2018 as "Myositis Awareness Month"
in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board further calls this observance to the attention of all the citizens of St. Lucie
County, Florida.
