HomeMy WebLinkAbout18-082RESOLUTION 18-082 A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING PARKING REGULATIONS ON THE COUNTY PROPERTY KNOWN AS SWEETWATER HAMMOCK PRESERVE LOCATED AT 4100 SOUTH 25TH STREET WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. The Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida enacted Ordinance No. 82-10, which provided for the adoption of regulations for properties and facilities owned or leased by St. Lucie County, and also for the operation and parking of motor vehicles pursuant to Section 316.006, Florida Statutes. 2. Sweetwater Hammock Preserve (the "Preserve") is an eight -acre natural area owned and managed by St. Lucie County. The Preserve protects a large oak hammock, floodplain forest, and approximately 400 linear feet of shoreline along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. The %-acre parking area and trailhead is located at 4100 S. 25th Street, Fort Pierce, Florida 34982 (Parcel ID No. 2433-231-0002-000-0), adjacent east of Fort Pierce Central High School. The Preserve was acquired by St. Lucie County as part of the North Fork Addition project in 2001 and the County partnered with the State of Florida's Florida Communities Trust Program for its acquisition. The Preserve is open to the public from sunrise to sunset daily for passive recreation and includes a %-mile hiking trail, picnic tables, and an unimproved landing for paddlers on the North Fork. The Preserve is well known for its birding opportunities and is very popular among visitors seeking a short hike near the City Limits. 3. The Board of County Commissioners has determined that individuals who are not using the Preserve are parking their vehicles in the Preserve parking lot located at 4100 South 25th Street. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. Only patrons using the Preserve trail are authorized to park in the Preserve parking lot located at 4100 South 25th Street in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance No. 82-10 and Section 316.006, Florida Statutes. 2. The St. Lucie County Environmental Resources Department is hereby authorized to erect signs in accordance with Florida Department of Transportation regulations sufficient to notify the public of the parking restrictions hereby established. 3. The County Administrator is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Sheriff of St. Lucie County.
