HomeMy WebLinkAbout18-176RESOLUTION NO. 18-176 A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2018, AS "POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. Throughout American history members of America's armed forces have made uncommon sacrifices as Prisoners of War (POW), serving our country under conditions of extreme hardship, while remaining steadfast even when theirtreatment violated fundamental standards of morality and international codes of conduct. 2. Americans held as POW and Americans Missing in Action (MIA) have earned our respect for their courage and devotion to the United States. 3. We honor our POWs who, in the act of serving our Nation, relinquished their freedom to protect the liberty we enjoy. 4. We also honor those MIAs, and should not forget the pain and suffering of war that continues for their families and friends and for all of us. 5. This Board believes all Americans should recognize the special debt we owe our fellow citizens who, in the act of serving our Nation, relinquished their freedom so that we may enjoy the blessings of peace and liberty. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby proclaim September 21, 2018, as "POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida. 2. This Board urges all citizens to attend the annual Candlelight Recognition Service on September 21, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 2200 SE Veterans Memorial Parkway, Port St. Lucie, Florida, to pay tribute and show support in achieving the fullest accounting for Americans still missing from the wars.
