HomeMy WebLinkAbout18-209RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING NOVEMBER 10-18, 2018 AS "NATIONAL HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS WEEK" AND COMMENDING CAREBAG, INC. FOR THEIR EFFORTS TO ASSIST THE HOMELESS IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. Hunger and poverty are issues of grave concern in the United States, the State of Florida, the Treasure Coast and St. Lucie County. 2. CareBag, Inc. provides for those who are hungry, at -risk families, and homeless families. 3. CareBag, Inc. recently distributed over 31,000 bags of food throughout St. Lucie County and also provide fresh bread every Thursday evening in Port St. Lucie. Social service agencies call CareBag, Inc. when they have a family in need, knowing that emergency food and other basic essentials will be provided immediately. 4. Plans for the CareBag, Inc. Mobile Shower for the homeless and at -risk families is currently being developed. CareBag, Inc. will continue to provide a safe and clean facility as a home setting for the homeless to have their hygiene needs addressed. 5. Currently, homeless families are vetted, and assisted with partnering agencies while shelter is sought, with continuing support to aid in growing their ability for self- sufficiency. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby proclaim the week of November 10 through 18, 2018 as "NATIONAL HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS WEEK" in St. Lucie County, Florida. 2. This Board also commends CareBag, Inc. for all they do to assist the hungry, at -risk families and homeless families in St. Lucie County, Florida.
