A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MARCH 24, 2019 AS
"WARRIORS ON THE WATER DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
The Friends of Savannas Preserve State Park will host a free event, "Warriors on the
Water"for local veterans on Sunday, March 24, 2019 from 8:00 am to 12 pm. It will include
kayak/hayride tours, interpretive walks, lunch, exhibitors, and demonstrations.
Reservations are required.
Warriors on the Water is a special event designed to connect veterans with the serenity
and wonder of Florida's natural systems. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy
guided interpretive walks through the pine flatwoods, take a guided kayak trip through the
pristine Savannas basin marsh, tour the park by hayride, and visit the Savannas Education
Center. Participants may also peruse display tables hosted by local businesses, not -for -
profit organizations, and government agencies. Participants will also enjoy a free lunch
sponsored by the Friends of Savannas Preserve State Park and park volunteers.
Warriors on the Water has been held for five years and is a life changing, award winning
event. It won the 2016 Special Event of the Year Award from the Friends of Florida State
Parks. It has changed many lives by showing veterans their ability to kayak or realizing an
interest from an exhibitor, which leads them to volunteer and become more involved in
the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
This Board does hereby proclaim March 24, 2019, as "WARRIORS ON THE WATER
DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board encourages local veterans to participate in this free event specifically
for them.
