PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 2019
AS NATIONAL FARM TO SCHOOL MONTH IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Farm to school initiatives provide educational opportunities for students related to
agriculture, food systems production, health, and nutrition through hands on learning.
2. Farm to school programs enrich the community in purchasing from local farmers and
producers, bringing economic development.
3. In 2018, the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension's
Family Nutrition Program supported over 340 gardens with more than 20,000
individuals participating in agriculture activities.
4. St. Lucie County Child Nutrition Services is celebrating National Farm to School month in
October.
5. The greater community of St. Lucie County is committed to increasing Farm to School
initiatives so that all residents benefit from these opportunities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim October 2019 as "National Farm to School Month" in St.
Lucie County, Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 22nd day of October 2019.
