A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING NOVEMBER 9-16, 2019 AS
"NATIONAL HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS WEEK" AND
COMMENDING GL HOMES AND BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY
FOR THEIR EFFORTS TO ASSIST THE HOMELESS IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS,the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has madethe
following determinations:
1. This Board is proud of the young people of St. Lucie County, who have unlimited potential
to become the workers and leaders of tomorrow.
2. Many of the County's young people need effective community organizations that help
young people reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.
3. GL Homes is working with Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County, the preeminent youth
development organization in the area, to provide scholarships for homeless Club members
and to support programsthat promote nutrition and combat hunger among young people.
4. GL Homes has lent its considerable expertise to Boys & Girls Club of St. Lucie County in the
form of shadowing and mentoring programs that broaden the horizons of young people,
all of which allow young people to gain skills needed to earn a liveable wage.
5. National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week, celebrated this year in early November,
is a time when people across America come together to promote awareness of the
problems of hunger and homelessness in America.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim the week of November 9 through 16, 2019 as "NATIONAL
HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS WEEK" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board also commends GL Homes and Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County for their
work in promoting awareness of these important community issues in St. Lucie County,
Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 5th day of November 2019.
