A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2019
AS "NATIONAL ADOPTION AWARENESS MONTH"
IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Place of Hope is the largest, most comprehensive children's organization in South Florida
caring for over 340 children, youth and families daily.
2. There are currently 504 children in St. Lucie County who are under DCF supervision; with
129 in out of home care.
3. Of those 129 children in St. Lucie County, Place of Hope has 27 beds to care for these
deserving children and youth.
4. Place of Hope works diligently with the Department of Children and Families to ensure that
every child has a forever family, evidenced by the 42 families receiving foster to adoption
assistance in the Treasure Coast since January 2015.
5. Children waiting for adoptive parents, and families who have adopted these children,
require and deserve community and agency support.
6. Place of Hope, along with community partners like GL Homes embraces opportunities that
can potentially change the way society cares for children and youth.
7. As a result of GL Homes Premier St. Lucie County Corporate partnership, Place of Hope has
been able to serve over 329 children youth and families since January 2015
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim the month of November 2019 as "NATIONAL ADOPTION
AWARENESS MONTH" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board further encourages community agencies, religious organizations, businesses
and others to celebrate adoption, honor families that grow through adoption, further
an awareness of the changes and issues in adoption, and focus attention on those
children who live in the shadow of an uncertain future while they await forever families.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 191h day of November 2019.
