A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF ST.
LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE ADDITION OF EASY
STREET AT US-1 IMPROVEMENT PROJECT TO THE
TRANSPORTATION PLANNING ORGANIZATION LIST OF PRIORITY
PROJECTS IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made
the following determinations:
1. Easy Street is a County owned road.
2. St. Lucie County, as the owner of Easy Street, is committed to the operation and
maintenance of Easy Street.
3. St. Lucie County supports adding Easy Street at US-1 improvements to the Transportation
Planning Organization (TPO) list of priority projects.
A congestion mitigation strategy to improve the east leg of the intersection of Easy Street
and US-1 was developed.
4. A bulb -out, raised median on the approach can be confusing to drivers and causes
congestion. It is recommended that the east leg be improved within the existing right-
of-way to provide a narrow, consistent -width median with three lanes westbound and
two lanes eastbound merging into the existing East Street roadway.
5. The sidewalks should be extended east from US-1 along both sides of Easy Street to the
terminus of the merge to connect with sidewalks planned to be constructed by St. Lucie
County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. The Board does hereby proclaim its support of the addition of Easy Street at US-1
improvements to the Transportation Planning Organization list of priority projects.
2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
3. The County Administration is directed to send a copy of this resolution to the
Transportation Planning Organization.

CMP Project Description
Easy Street at US-1 (Unincorporated St. Lucie County)
The level of service for the Easy Street corridor from US-1 to Yucca Drive was reported as failing in
year 2015 and 2017. With coordination of the maintaining agency, St. Lucie County, a congestion
mitigation strategy to improve the east leg of the intersection of Easy Street and US Highway 1 was
developed. Currently, there is a bulb -out, raised median on this approach which can be confusing to
drivers and causes congestion. Additionally the existing break in the median creates an unsafe,
nonstandard condition which contributes to congestion and inhibits driver expectations. An aerial
photograph of the existing intersection is provided in Figure 1. It is recommended that the east leg
be improved within the existing right-of-way to provide a raised concrete median with two lanes
westbound (a left turn lane and a thru/right turn lane) and one lane eastbound. The sidewalks should be
extended east from US-1 along both sides of Easy Street to the terminus of the merge to connect
with sidewalks planned to be constructed by St. Lucie County. A preliminary sketch of the congestion
mitigation strategy is depicted in Figure 2.
