A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING SCOTT VAN DUZER WITH THE VAN DUZER FOUNDATION
FOR HIS MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
Scott Van Duzer is President of the Van Duzer Foundation, which was founded in 2008,
with a determination to make a difference by helping individuals and families in St. Lucie
County who were experiencing difficulties due to unforeseen tragedy or illness, including
help last year for St. Lucie County employee, Linda Young.
Scott is also the owner of Big Apple Pizza in Fort Pierce, Florida and his pizza place is where
most of the events that help raise funds for families in need are held. What started out as
a small, but dedicated group of individuals wanting to make a positive impact on the
community has turned into a grassroots phenomenon that has garnered international
attention and serves as a role model for other communities and organizations. Big Apple
Pizza is where Van Duzer's famous "bear hug" with President Barack Obama occurred.
In 2012, Mr. Van Duzer was named the "Outstanding Small Business Philanthropist" during
the 15`h Annual National Philanthropy Day bythe Association of Fund-raising Professionals.
He has also earned many other Service Awards including the Jefferson Award for
Community Service, the Points of Light Presidential Volunteer, the Spirit of St. Lucie Award,
the Indian River State College Pioneer Hall of Fame - First Ever Inductee, the St. Lucie
County Fire District Citizen Hero and the Florida Blood Centers First -ever Ambassador, just
to name a few. He was also awarded the key to the city of Fort Pierce, Florida and was
spotlighted in PEOPLE Magazine as a Community Hero.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
This Board does hereby recognize and thank Scott Van Duzerand his Van Duzer Foundation
for their many contributions to individuals and families in St. Lucie County, Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 281h day of January, 2020.
