A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF APRIL 2020 AS
"NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH" AND FRIDAY, APRIL 17, 2020 AS
"NATIONAL DONATE LIFE BLUE AND GREEN DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. One of the most meaningful gifts that a human being can bestow upon another is the Gift of
Life through organ, eye and tissue donation.
2. More than 113,241 children and adults await lifesaving transplants, of which over 5,920 are
in Florida.
3. In 2018, forthefirsttime ever, morethan 36,500transplants took place, reachinga milestone
for the sixth year in a row. We are still losing an average of 22 lives every day due to the lack
of organs available for transplantation, because every ten minutes, another name is added
to the National Transplant waiting list.
4. According to Donate Life America, while 95% of adults in the United States support organ
donation, only 58% are signed up as donors.
5. The decision to become an organ donor can save up to eight lives and tissue donation can
enhance many more men, women, and children who depend on the generosity and sacrifice
of others to receive the vital care they require.
6. Every person should support this life saving effort by learning more about organ, eye and
tissue donation, making their families aware of their wishes and registering online at
www.donatelifeflorida.org or when they receive or renew their Florida driver's license.
7. National Donate Life Blue and Green Day is observed annually in April and we are encouraged
to wear blue and green to promote organ donation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim the month of April 2020 as "NATIONAL DONATE LIFE
MONTH" and Friday, April 17, 2020 as "NATIONAL DONATE LIFE BLUE AND GREEN DAY" in
St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to give the gift of life by registering to be an
organ, tissue and eye donor and to wear blue and green on Friday, April 17, 2020 to promote
organ donation.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 71h day of April 2020.
