HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-134 RESOLUTION NO. 20-134 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONER OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA RATIFYING ORDER NO. 20-035 OF THE ST. LUCIE COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR REGARDING THE USE OF LAWNWOOD STADIUM TO PROVIDE A FORUM FOR A PEACEFUL DISCUSSION OF THE EVENTS THAT OCCURRED IN MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. Pursuant to Section 252.38, Florida Statutes, political subdivisions of the state have the power during a state of local emergency to provide for the health and safety of persons and property. 2. The Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County has adopted Resolution No. 00-277 authorizing the St. Lucie County Administrator and the St. Lucie County Public Safety Director to exercise certain emergency powers and authority during a local emergency. 3. Paragraph 2 of the St. Lucie County Declaration of Emergency provides that the County Administrator may take all actions necessary and appropriate to protect human life and prosperity, to the extent necessary to accommodate the emergency; and 4. The County received a request for a local group to use Lawnwood Stadium as a forum to discuss recent events in Minneapolis, Minnesota; and 5. There was not adequate time to process the request using normal procedures, but it was important from a community standpoint to provide a forum for peaceful discussion of the issues on June 5, 2020; and 6. Effective June 4, 2020 at 5:00 p.m., the County Administrator issued an emergency order approving the use of Lawnwood Stadium on June 5, 2020. The County Administrator's order effective June 4, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. is hereby ratified. 2.
