HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-141 RESOLUTION NO. 20-141 A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF JULY 19-25, 2020 AS "TREASURE COAST WATERWAY CLEANUP WEEK"AND SATURDAY,JULY 25,2020 AS "TREASURE COAST WATERWAY CLEANUP DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. On Saturday,July 25, 2020,the Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast, in conjunction with the Florida Inland Navigation District, will conduct the 13' Annual Treasure Coast Waterway Cleanup. 2. The event is expected to attract over 1000 volunteers who will participate in cleaning up the waterways of Martin, St. Lucie,and Indian River Counties. 3. There are thirty-one designated sites throughout the three counties that will serve as registration and disposal sites for the volunteers to work from. 4. Numerous waterfront homeowners' associations have been recruited to clean up their own waterfront. 5. Since the beginning, 87.2 tons of trash have been collected from approximately 125 miles of waterways with an expectation of a significantly larger amount to be collected this year with an increased volunteer effort. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby proclaim the week of July 19-25, 2020 as "TREASURE COAST WATERWAY CLEANUP WEEK" and Saturday, July 25, 2020 as "TREASURE COAST WATERWAY CLEANUP DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida. 2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to use this occasion to foster appreciation for the Treasure Coast Waterways and to assist in the cleanup efforts.
