HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-20519 RESOLUTION NO. 20-205 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA RATIFYING EXTENSIONS TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY DIRECTOR'S DECLARATION OF EMERGENCY (HURRICANE ISAIAS) WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. Pursuant to Section 252.38, Florida Statutes, political subdivisions of the state have the power during a state of local emergency to provide for the health and safety of persons and property. 2. The Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County has adopted Resolution No. 00-277 authorizing the St. Lucie County Administrator and the St. Lucie County Public Safety Director to exercise certain emergency powers and authority during a local emergency. 3. The National Hurricane Center identified Hurricane Isaias and issued a Hurricane Warning for the east coast of Florida, including St. Lucie County. 4. The Governor of the State of Florida issued Executive Order 20-181 dated July 31, 2020, declaring a state of emergency that includes St. Lucie County; and 5. Executive Order 20-181, in accordance with Section 252.38, Florida Statutes, authorizes political subdivisions to take whatever prudent action is necessary to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the community, and 6. On August 1, 2020, the St. Lucie County Public Safety Director declared a State of Local Emergency Hurricane Isaias ("St. Lucie County Declaration of Emergency'); and 7. On August 8, 2020, August 15, 2020, August 22, 2020, and August 29, 2020, the Public Safety Director extended the State of Local Emergency. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: JOSEPH E. The August 1, 2020 St. Lucie County Declaration of Emergency, as well as the subsequent extensions as noted above are hereby ratified. 2. This resolution shall take effect upon adoption.
