HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-231 RESOLUTION NO. 20-231 A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2020 AS "ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS,the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. Alzheimer's disease is a public health crisis. 2. There are over 580,000 residents of Florida who have a neurocognitive disorder and who are among the most fragile and vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19. 3. Over 1.15 million family care givers in Florida provided over 1.3 billion hours of unpaid care to their senior family members who have a neurocognitive disorder. 4. 9,442 families live in St. Lucie County who must cope with the disease process daily, as well as the threat of hurricanes and the flu. 5. It is important that the safety and well-being of Alzheimer's families living in our local communities is preserved, as well as their dignity and quality of life, and that services and resources are accessible to all cultures. 6. This Board extends its gratitude to those advocates and service providers, including Alzheimer's Community Care and the Alzheimer's Association Southeast Florida Chapter, who provide vital care and support, value the need for dementia-specific care, and support Alzheimer's families and a cure for Alzheimer's patients. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby proclaim the month of November 2020 as"ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH" in St. Lucie County, Florida. 2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to learn more about Alzheimer's disease and attend educational events that are free and open to the public during Alzheimer 's Disease Awareness Month in St. Lucie County, Florida.
