A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING DECEMBER 15, 2020 AS
"ELECTION WORKER APPRECIATION DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made
the following determinations:
1. America's Election Workers number over 600,000 per federal election, of which Florida
employs approximately 46,000.
2. The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in numerous challenges during the 2020 election cycle,
causing some Election Workers to stay home instead of serving at the polls due to health
concerns.
3. This year's election required additional hours and safety measures due to the pandemic. St.
Lucie County's 509 active Election Workers exhibited exceptional commitment, dedication,
and a great sense of civic responsibility, while they served at the polls. Thanks to their
heroic efforts and service, record numbers of voters were able to participate in the 2020
General Election.
4. To conduct an accessible, safe and secure election requires the work of hundreds of
experienced and first time Election Workers in every neighborhood and community who
join together, work as a team and play the crucial role in helping voters safely and securely
vote at the polls in St. Lucie County.
5. Since 2016, in anticipation of Election Worker attrition, the Supervisor of Elections Office
and the Board of County Commissioners (B.O.C.C.) have partnered to ensure adequate
staffing at the polls. A partnership that has allowed us to be able to sufficiently staff
precincts for each election and has proved invaluable during this election cycle.
6. St. Lucie County is proud to acknowledge the heroic efforts made by Election Workers, and
encourages voters, businesses, organizations, public officials, and all candidates for public
office across our county to join in celebrating and thanking these individuals.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida that this Board does hereby proclaim December 15, 2020, as "ELECTION
WORKER APPRECIATION DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
