A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING A MULTI-WAY (3 WAY) STOP AT THE
INTERSECTION OF INDIAN RIVER DRIVE AND SAVANNAH ROAD IN ST.
LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Section 316.008(1)(i), Florida Statutes, authorizes the Board to designate any intersection
under its jurisdiction as a stop intersection.
2. Traffic signals at the intersection of Indian River Drive and Savannah Road are under the
City of Fort Pierce's jurisdiction.
3. Due to the increase in traffic at this intersection,the Road and Bridge Division of the Public
Works Department of St. Lucie County has undertaken studies to determine feasibility of
a multi-way (3 way) stop as the second stage of a pilot project.
4. The existing road conditions do not meet current design standards.
5. Implementing the project will improve the existing conditions and make Indian River Drive
safer for the traveling public.
6. The decision to implement the 3 way stop at the intersection of Indian River Drive and
Savannah Road is a planning level decision initiated by the Board of County
Commissioners and is intended to make the intersection of Indian River Drive and
Savannah Road safer for the traveling public.
7. Approval of the 3 way stop is contingent upon the City of Fort Pierce agreeing to
reimburse the County for the cost of the stop.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County:
1. Subject to the consent of the City of Fort Pierce, agreement by the City of Fort Pierce to
reimburse the County for the cost of the 3 way stop and based on the findings set out
above, the intersection of Indian River Drive and Savannah Road is hereby designated as
a multi-way (3 way) stop. The St. Lucie County Road and Bridge Manager is hereby
directed to erect stop signs at the intersection of Indian River Drive and Savannah Road.
2. The County Administrator is hereby directed to provide copies of this resolution to the
City of Fort Pierce, Sheriff of St. Lucie County, and the St. Lucie County Road and Bridge
Manager.
3. This Resolution shall be effective upon adoption. The Public Works Director is directed to
report back to the Board and Administration on the effectiveness of the multi-way stop
within one (1) year from the date the signs are installed.
