A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF MAY 2021 AS "ASIAN AMERICAN
AND PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made
the following determinations:
1. The history of Asian and Pacific Americans in the United States is a long and honorable
one. Determined to uphold American's promise of freedom and opportunity for all,
generations of Asian and Pacific men and women have helped this Nation to grow and
prosper.
2. The important role played by many Asian and Pacific Americans in the building of the first
transcontinental railroad is well documented;their determination and hard work are well
known. With diligent effort and abiding faith in the American Dream, Asian and Pacific
Americans have steadily advanced, earning ever greater respect and admiration from
their fellow citizens.
3. These Americans bolster our economy as entrepreneurs, business owners, and
employees who initiate and expand opportunities for their families, communities, and
county. Their languages, art, cuisine, and other cultural elements have enriched the
American experience, and many have fearlessly answered the call of duty to defend our
freedom as members of our Armed Forces.
4. The contributions of Americans of Asian and Pacific Islander descent are firmly woven
into the diverse fabric of our Nation. During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage
month, we celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of Americans of Asian and Pacific
Islander Heritage that have enriched our great country and helped define our history.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County,
Florida that this Board does hereby proclaim the month of May 2021 as "Asian American and Pacific
Islander Heritage Month" in St . Lucie County, Florida and further urge all St . Lucie County citizens to
observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 4th day of May 2021.
