DECLARATION OF LOCAL EMERGENCY BY THE
MAYOR OF THE CITY OF FORT PIERCE,
FLORIDA PURSUANT TO CH.2,ART. XV.5., §2-284
(Hurricane Irma)
WHEREAS, EXECUTIVE ORDER NUMBER 17-235 was issued by the
Governor of the State of Florida on September 4, 2017, declaring a state of emergency in
response to Hurricane Irma that poses a severe threat to the entire State of Florida and
requires that timely precautions are taken to protect the communities, critical
infrastructure, and general welfare of this State; and
WHEREAS, safeguarding the lives and property of its citizens is a fundamental
responsibility of the governing body of each political subdivision of the state; and
WHEREAS,by operation of law, the aforementioned EXECUTIVE ORDER and
Sections 252.36, 252.46 and 252.38, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 2, Article XV.5.
Emergencies - Disaster, Sections 2-282 through 2-292 of the Code of Ordinances of the
City of Fort Pierce, provide the Mayor or the Mayor Pro Tern of the City of Fort Pierce
with authority to declare a state of local emergency, to request state assistance, to invoke
the City's emergency-related mutual-aid assistance agreements; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Fort Pierce has determined therefore that
the severe threat requires that emergency action be taken to prevent or alleviate the
suffering of the citizens of the City of Fort Pierce and to protect and rehabilitate property;

WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Fort Pierce has determined that the City of
Fort Pierce's Emergency Management Plan should be activated,
NOW, THEREFORE, the Mayor of the City of Fort Pierce, Florida hereby
proclaims and declares that:
Section 1. A state of local emergency exists for the City of Fort Pierce,Florida.
Section 2. This Declaration of Local Emergency shall take effect immediately
and shall remain in effect for the next seven (7) days, pursuant to Section 252.38, Florida
Statues,unless terminated earlier, or extended as necessary.
Section 3, This Declaration of Local Emergency shall be filed promptly with the
City Clerk and the Clerk of the Circuit Court, and shall otherwise be given prompt and
general publicity.
DECLARED AND ORDERED this the f ' day of September, 2017.
