A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE NAME OF TUG SINGLETON REEF AS THE
BLAKE CHARRON FOUNDATION REEF
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determination:
1. The Tug Singleton has been cleaned and prepared for reefing offshore St. Lucie County.
Deploying Tug Singleton as a reef will help collect sand and be a habitat for fish and offset anticipated
impacts to low-relief, hard bottom documented within the future sand trap construction of the area.
Tug will act as a habitat for juvenile fish, such as gag and black grouper that spend their early life in the
Indian River Lagoon. As these fish grow, they move through the Fort Pierce Inlet to reefs and artificial
reefs offshore.
2. The Tug will create an area deeper than the normal depth of the inlet to allow sand
pulled into the Fort Pierce Inlet to be collected for later distribution back onto the beaches.
3. The Blake Charron Foundation supports environmental and social impact projects to
conserve, protect, restore, and enhance marine and coastal habitats and communities throughout
Florida and the Caribbean, giving back to the locations that gave so much to Blake Charron and his
family. The Blake Charron Foundation, Inc. has donated $25,000 towards this artificial reef project and
the Tug Singleton Reef will be named the Blake Charron Foundation Reef.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County,
Florida that this Board does hereby designate the naming of Tug Singleton Artificial Reef as the Blake
Charron Foundation Reef.
After motion and second, the vote on this resolution was as follows:
