A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 2021 AS "BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH'
AND RECOGNIZING "FRIENDS IN PINK, INC.' FOR PROVIDING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO
BREAST CANCER PATIENTS LIVING ON THE TREASURE COAST IN ST.LUCIE COUNTY,FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual health campaign organized by major
breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to
raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure.
2. Ninety percent (90%) of those with an early diagnosis survive breast cancer for 5
years or more.
3. Friends In Pink, Inc. has a mission to financially assist those who have little or no
health insurance to pay for breast cancer surgery and treatment.
4. With the support of local business partners, donors, and volunteers, Friends in
Pink, Inc. is able to host dozens of fundraising events, luncheons, and donation
drives each year. The money raised by these initiatives are used to make direct
healthcare payments on behalf of the men and women they assist.
5. Since 2005, the nonprofit organization has helped more than 300 individuals pay
for life-saving treatments and surgeries that they otherwise might not have been
able to afford.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim October 2021, as"BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
MONTH" in St. Lucie County, Florida, and recognize FRIENDS IN PINK, INC. for making the future
brighter for so many because of their caring attitude and strong commitment. This Board
encourages all residents to participate in October events to celebrate breast cancer survivors,
pay tribute to those lost to the disease, and raise funds to end breast cancer once and for all.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 5th day of October 2021.
