A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2021 AS
"ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Alzheimer's disease is a public health crisis with an 18.5% increase in deaths of citizens
during the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. In Florida, the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease is estimated to increase 24% from
580,000 in 2020 to 720,000 in 2025, with 70% of the care provided by family caregivers
in the community.
3. In St. Lucie County there are 9,850 families coping with the effects of Alzheimer's disease,
combined with 13.6% of persons aged 45 and older having subjective cognitive decline.
5. It is critical that Alzheimer's families within our local communities coping with all stages
of the disease process are safe and their wellbeing is preserved, as well as their dignity
and quality of life through services and resources accessible to all cultures for those 18
years and older. Patients can live with this disease for two to twenty years with an
average being ten.
6. This Board extends its gratitude to those advocates and supporters, including but not
limited to Alzheimer's Community Care and its Board of Directors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim the month of November 2021 as"ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
AWARENESS MONTH" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to learn more about Alzheimer's disease
and attend educational events that are free and open to the public during Alzheimer 's
Disease Awareness Month in St. Lucie County, Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 2nd day of November 2021.
