BECKER PRESERVE PROJECT, AUTHORIZING APPLICATION TO THE RECREATIONAL TRAILS PROGRAM GRANT PROGRAM; AND CERTIFYING THAT THE COUNTY WILL SEEK AMENDMENT TO THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN TO INCLUDE THE PROJECT IF SAID GRANT IS AWARDED. WHEREAS,The St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners("Board")is interested in carrying out the following described project ("Project") for the enjoyment of the citizenry of St. Lucie County and the State of Florida: Project Title: Pedestrian Trail Bridge at the Richard E. Becker Preserve Total Estimated Cost: $500,000.00 Brief Description of Project: The project would construct a pedestrian trail bridge to reconnect the trail system at the Richard E. Becker Preserve to regain public use aspects of the property prior to the recent Ten Mile Creek oxbow restoration project. The trails at the Richard E. Becker Preserve are a part of the larger planned regional North Fork St. Lucie River greenway and trail system and is included in the St. Lucie County Greenways and Trails Master Plan. WHEREAS,financial assistance is required of the Recreational Trails Program Grant for the project mentioned above. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by The St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners: 1. The Board hereby authorizes the Project described above; 2. The County shall apply for a Recreational Trails Program Grant in the amount of 50% of the actual cost of the Project on behalf of said St. Lucie County; and 3. The County certifies that it will seek amendment to the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to include the Project, Pedestrian Trail Bridge as the Richard E. Becker Preserve, should the Recreational Trails Program Grant program fund 50%of the project cost in the upcoming grant cycle.
