A RESOLUTION DECLARING APRIL 28, 2022 AS
"WORKERS' MEMORIAL DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Each April 28th, we observe Workers' Memorial Day as a day to remember those
who have suffered and died on the job.
2. We remember those who have died in workplace catastrophes, suffered
diseases because of exposure to toxic substances or have been injured because of dangerous
conditions. We rededicate ourselves to the fight for safe workplaces.
3. The core theme for Workers' Memorial Day has been "Mourn for the Dead,
Fight for the Living".
4. April 28th was chosen because it is the anniversary of when the Occupational
Safety and Health Act went into effect.
5. Workers' Memorial Day is observed in nearly 100 countries.
6. The Palm Beach-Treasure Coast AFL-CIO will have a remembrance ceremony at
5:00 p.m. on April 28, 2022 virtually via Zoom.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida that this Board does hereby declare April 28, 2022 as "WORKERS' MEMORIAL
DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 19th day of April 2022.
