A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY 21 - 27, 2022 AS
"NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Boating continues to be a popular recreational activity for more than 100 million Americans.
During National Safe Boating Week, the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
encourage boaters to explore and enjoy our local waters responsibly.
2. Safe boating begins with appropriate preparation. The Coast Guard estimates that human
error accounts for the majority of boating accidents; and that the use of life jackets could prevent
nearly 85%of recreational boating fatalities.
3. National Safe Boating Week is observed to reinforce awareness of and attention to important
life-saving procedures so recreational boaters can be safe and have an enjoyable on water
experiences throughout the year.
4. Our local Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is chartered, by an Act of the United States
Congress, to promote Recreational Boating Safety, through Educational and Boating Safety
Awareness Programs.
5. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary 58 Fort Pierce Florida is a local community leader in promoting
Maritime Education and in actively promoting Boating Safety awareness.
6. The U.S. Coast Guard and specifically USCG Station Fort Pierce proactively supports local
initiatives promoting Marine Safety.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida does hereby proclaim the week of May 21-27, 2022 as "NATIONAL SAFE BOATING
WEEK" so to reinforce awareness and attention to important life-saving skills. These skills can allow
boaters to enjoy the wonders of our Treasure Coast waterways securely.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 17th day of May 2022.
