A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2022
AS "PREMATURITY AWARENESS MONTH" AND NOVEMBER 17,
2022 AS "WORLD PREMATURITY DAY" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY,
FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Families face serious health risks and March of Dimes fights for their health by
supporting research, leading programs and providing education and advocacy.
2. March of Dimes has developed a collaborative model to study and prevent
preterm birth through groundbreaking research at five Prematurity Research
Centers.
3. March of Dimes is committed to mobilizing the nation by amplifying the voices of
pregnant people and families.
4. Two hundred ninety (290) babies are born preterm each year in St. Lucie County,
representing 9.8% of all births in the County.
5. March of Dimes looks forward to partnering with St. Lucie County in response to
the continued maternal and infant health crisis of prematurity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida does hereby proclaim the month of November 2022 as "Prematurity Awareness
Month" and November 17, 2022 as "World Prematurity Day" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 1st day of November 2022.
