A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF APRIL 9TH—15TH, 2023 AS
"NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. The second full week in April has been declared "National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week"by
the Senate and United States House of Representatives. Each Telecommunicator has exhibited
compassion,empathy, and professionalism while keeping our community and its citizens safe.They have
contributed to the apprehension of criminals, suppression of fires and treatment of patients in life
threatening situations.
2. Public Safety Telecommunicators of the St. Lucie County Public Safety Communications Center serve
the public daily in countless ways without the recognition by the beneficiaries of their services.
3. Telecommunicators of the St. Lucie County Fire District processed over 62,919 emergency calls last
year and are the first and most critical contact that our citizens have with St. Lucie County Fire District
emergency services.
4. Emergencies can occur at any time that require police,fire, or emergency medical services. When an
emergency occurs the prompt response of law enforcement, fire services, and ambulance services is
critical to the protection of life and preservation of property.These Telecommunicators are the vital link
to those calling for help and to firefighters and paramedics.They monitor emergency personnel's activities
by radio and telephone and provide them with lifesaving information to ensure their safety.
5. The safety of our deputies, police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel is
dependent upon the quality and accuracy of information obtained and relayed from citizens who access
the 9-1-1 emergency system. The safety of SLCFD firefighters and paramedics is dependent upon the
quality and accuracy of information obtained by all Telecommunicators from the citizens who telephone
the St. Lucie County Fire Emergency Operations Center.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County,
Florida does hereby proclaim April 9 through April 15, 2023 as "NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY
TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK" in St. Lucie County, Florida. This Board further commends the St. Lucie
County Public Safety Telecommunicators and the St. Lucie County Fire District Telecommunicators for
their efforts on behalf of St. Lucie County and its citizens.
