A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 2023 AS "FUNCTIONAL
NEUROLOGICAL DISORDER AWARENESS MONTH"
IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. Functional Neurological Disorder("FND") is a problem with the functioning of the nervous
system and how the brain and body send and receive signals.
2. FND affects approximately 50 out of every 100,000 Americans (but that number is
thought to be low).
3. FND affects people of all ages, with onset and diagnosis as early as age 10.
4. FND occupies a grey area between psychiatry and neurology that historically has failed to
gain the interest of researchers and clinicians.
5. FND is the second most common reason for a neurological outpatient visit after
headache/ migraine.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida does hereby proclaim April 2023 as "Functional Neurological Disorder Awareness
Month" in St. Lucie County Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 18th day of April 2023.
