A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING JULY 15 - 23, 2023 AS
"TREASURE COAST WATERWAY CLEANUP WEEK"
IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made
the following determinations:
1. On Saturday, July 22, 2023, the Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast in
conjunction with the Florida Inland Navigation District will conduct the 16th Annual
Treasure Coast Waterway Cleanup.
2. This event will attract approximately 1,200 volunteers who will participate in cleaning
up the waterways of Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie Counties.
3. Twenty-five designated sites throughout the three counties will serve as registration and
disposal sites for the volunteers to work out of.
4. Numerous waterfront homeowners' associations have been recruited to clean up their
own waterfronts.
5. Since 2008, more than 13,441 volunteers, more than 3,200 boats and more than 99.25
tons of trash has been collected from approximately 125 miles of waterways with an
expectation of a significantly larger amount to be collected this year with an increased
volunteer effort.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida, does hereby proclaim July 15 - 23, 2023 as "Treasure Coast Waterway Cleanup
Week" in St. Lucie County, Florida and all citizens are encouraged to use this occasion to foster
appreciation for the Treasure Coast Waterways and assist in the cleanup efforts.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 11th day of July, 2023.
