HomeMy WebLinkAbout23-131 RESOLUTION NO. 23-131 ARESOLUTION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 11, 2023, AS "INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD" IN ST.LUCIE COUNTY,FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. October 11 is International Day of the Girl Child, a day to recognize the contributions of girls to society. 2. On December 18, 2011, United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare October 11 as International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girl's rights, contributions, and the unique challenges girls face around the world. 3. The world is home to more than 1.1 billion girls under the age of 18, who are poised to become the largest generation of female leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers the world has ever seen. 4. Girls have been breaking boundaries and barriers caused by stereotypes, including those based on disabilities and socio-economic status. As a result, they are creating a world that is more than tolerant but one that is inclusive of them and future generations. 5. "International Day of the Girl Child" further recognizes the power of adolescent girls to change the world both as the empowered girls of today and as tomorrow's leaders. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby proclaim October 11, 2023, as "INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD" in St. Lucie County, Florida, and encourages all residents to show their support for all girls by joining the many organizations that are continuing the fight to empower girls and provide a roadmap that encourages girls to be all they can be. PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 3rd day of October 2023.
