A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2023 AS
"ALZHEIMER'S AWARENESS MONTH" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS,the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. In the United State there are over 6.7 million reported cases of Alzheimer's disease.
2. In Florida approximately 580,000 people age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's
disease.
3. In Florida cases are projected to increase by 24%to 720,000 by 2025, with an estimated
70% of the care provided by family caregivers in the community.
4. In St. Lucie County, the age group 65 and older, is at greatest risk for Alzheimer's disease,
exceeds 24% of the population, and approximately 10,000 currently have probable Alzheimer's
disease.
5. It is critical that Alzheimer's families coping with the disease are safe, with wellbeing,
dignity, and quality of life preserved, through services and resources accessible to all.
6. We extend gratitude to those advocates and supporters including, but not limited to,
Alzheimer's Community Care and its Board of Directors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida does hereby proclaim the month of November 2023 as "ALZHEIMER'S
AWARENESS MONTH" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 14th day of November 2023.
