HomeMy WebLinkAbout23-199 RESOLUTION NO. 23-199 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF NAMING THE NEW SR A1A NORTH CAUSEWAY BRIDGE OVER THE INTERCOASTAL WATERWAY AS THE E. C. SUMMERLIN FAMILY BRIDGE IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. The Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, desires to pay tribute to and recognize the E. C. Summerlin Family's historical, cultural, economic, environmental, and charitable contributions to St. Lucie County and the Treasure Coast area. 2. The E. C. Summerlin Family were 1888 pioneer settlers of what is now St. Lucie County and they have contributed to St. Lucie County for 135 years. They are one of the Treasure Coast's most beloved families. 3. The Summerlin Family members are active and prominent figures in the preservation of Florida and the Treasure Coast's lands and waters, flora and fauna. 4. St. Lucie County recognizes their dedication to promoting, preserving, and protecting the history of St. Lucie County. 5. Family members manage and protect the State's waterways, and especially the Indian River Lagoon and Atlantic Ocean, as one of the County's first bridge tenders, as fishermen and fishing guides, as members of various waterway governance boards, and as teachers in the County school system. 6. St. Lucie County recognizes the Summerlin Family's generosity and kindness to the residents and visitors to St. Lucie County and their involvement in helping to establish some of the early churches of this County and their continued charitable contributions to those in need. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, hereby supports the State of Florida naming the new SR A1A North Causeway Bridge over the Intercoastal Waterway in St. Lucie County as the E.C. Summerlin Family Bridge in recognition of the many contributions the E.C. Summerlin Family has made in the past and continues to provide. PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 17th day of October, 2023.
