A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 2025 AS "TEEN DATING VIOLENCE
AWARENESS AND PREVENTION MONTH"IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY,FLORIDA
WHEREAS,the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida has made
the following determinations:
1. WE LEAP INC. is a violence and education awareness and prevention organization
located in St. Lucie County that has been leading the charge on teen dating violence
awareness for almost a decade in the St. Lucie County.
2. Dating violence is a reality for many youth,and an issue that many parents are unaware
of.
3. One in three young people are affected by physical, sexual, or verbal dating violence,
with one in five in a serious relationship reporting having been slapped, pushed, hit,
threatened, or coerced by a partner. Breakups can be a time of even greater risk even
when a relationship was never physically abusive.
4. Young people can choose better relationships when they understand that healthy
relationships are based on respect and learn to identify early warning signs of an
abusive relationship.
5. Elimination of dating violence must be achieved through cooperation of individuals,
organizations, and communities.
6. Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month provides an excellent opportunity
for citizens to learn more about preventing dating violence and to show support for the
numerous organizations and individuals who provide critical advocacy, services, and
assistance to victims.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
St. Lucie County, Florida does hereby proclaim the month of February 2025 as "Teen Dating
Violence Awareness and Prevention Month"in St. Lucie County, Florida.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 18th day of February 2025.
