HomeMy WebLinkAbout25-063 RESOLUTION NO. 2025-063 A RESOLUTION ADOPTING A ST. LUCIE COUNTY TRAFFIC CALMING POLICY TO ADDRESS INCREASING TRAFFIC CONGESTION, SAFETY CONCERNS, AND LIVABILITY ISSUES IN LOCAL NEIGHBORHOODS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 336.02, Florida Statutes,the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida (the "Board") is invested with the general superintendence and control of the County road systems; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 336.045, Florida Statutes, requiring uniform minimum standards and criteria for the design, construction and maintenance of all public streets, the traffic calming standards contained within the "FDOT Manual of Uniform Minimum Standards for Design, Construction and Maintenance for Streets and Highways (Commonly known as the Florida Greenbook)" shall be incorporated and referenced within the Policy; and WHEREAS, the Board is committed to promoting the safety for all road users, maintaining neighborhood livability, addressing traffic issues, and implementing cost-effective and consistent solutions while preserving emergency access; and WHEREAS,the Board has determined that to attain this objective a standardized policy needs to be adopted to outline procedures to request, evaluate, and implement traffic calming measures on County managed roadways, ensuring a balanced approach to improving safety, reducing vehicle speeds, and enhancing quality of life; and WHEREAS, the Board has determined that the adoption of the Traffic Calming Policy referenced below is in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of St. Lucie County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida,that: A. The St. Lucie County Traffic Calming Policy attached hereto as "Exhibit A" is hereby adopted and shall be implemented as the policy of St. Lucie County. B. This resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
