HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-06-26 County Administrator Order - Banning Open Air Burning AN ORDER OF THE ST. LUCIE COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR BANNING OPEN AIR BURNING IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY WHEREAS, the St. Lucie County Administrator has made the following determinations: 1. The Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County has adopted Resolution No. 00-277 authorizing the County Administrator and the Public Safety Director to exercise certain emergency powers and authority during a local emergency. 2. Due to the drought conditions in St. Lucie County, the Fire Chief of the St. Lucie County Fire District has requested via email on Friday, February 6, 2026, that the County ban open air burning in St. Lucie County. 3. The drought conditions have placed St. Lucie County in a state of emergency, exposing the citizens thereof to danger to life and property. 4. In order to respond to such emergency, upon this declaration, the County Administrator or his designee is authorized to initiate and take such actions authorized by Resolution 00-277 for and on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners during the term of such local state of emergency. 5. The St. Lucie County Public Safety Director declared a state of local emergency on February 6, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. 6. Based on the determination, I hereby declare a ban on open air burning in St. Lucie County during the state of emergency without a burn authorization issued by the Florida Forest Service or for the cooking of food exclusively within a contained or charcoal grill. Such ban shall remain in full force and effect for the duration of the declared state of emergency and any extensions. 7.
