HomeMy WebLinkAbout26-037 RESOLUTION NO. 26-037 A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY 3-9, 2026,AS "NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES WEEK" IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY,FLORIDA WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioner of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. The United States Congress has designated the first full week of May as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week in recognition of the essential role correctional professionals serve within the criminal justice system. This observance will occur the week of May 3rd through 9th,2026. 2. Established in 1984 by President Reagan, this week recognizes the critical role these professionals play in public safety,rehabilitation, and security. 3. Correctional officers and employees perform demanding and often unseen duties, maintaining secure facilities while ensuring the safety, order, and well-being of inmates, staff, and the public. 4. These professionals demonstrate courage, resilience, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law under challenging and sometimes dangerous circumstances. 5. Correctional officers and staff contribute to the rehabilitation and accountability of offenders while safeguarding the rights and dignity of all individuals within their care. 6. The dedication and professionalism of correctional personnel strengthen public safety and enhance the quality of life for all members of our community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida: 1. This Board does hereby proclaim MAY 3-9, 2026, as "NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES WEEK" in St. Lucie County, Florida. 2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to recognize and honor the service, sacrifice, and commitment of correctional professionals, whose steadfast dedication protects our community each and every day.
