A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF MAY 10-16, 2026 AS "NATIONAL POLICE
WEEK";AND DESIGNATING MAY 15, 2026 AS "PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY"
IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the
following determinations:
1. The Congress of the United States has designed May 15, 2026, as Peace Officers Memorial
Day, and the week in which it falls as National Police Week. Therefore, National Police Week will be
observed from May 10 through May 16, 2026.
2. To recognize and to honor the service and memory of those officers who have made the
ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and to recognize the families who share in that sacrifice.
3. The men and women of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office provide a vital public service by
serving our community with courage, integrity, and commitment to safeguarding life and property.
These men and women willingly place themselves in harm's way to protect the rights and freedoms
guaranteed to every citizen and work tirelessly to strengthen partnerships with the communities they
serve, foster trust, and uphold the rule of law.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie
County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim May 10-16, 2026 as "NATIONAL POLICE WEEK" in St. Lucie
County and calls upon all citizens of St. Lucie County to observe this week with appropriate
ceremonies and activities, to publicly express our gratitude to law enforcement officers, and to
remember those who have given their lives in the line of duty.
2. This Board further encourages all citizens of St. Lucie County to observe Thursday, May 15,
2026, as "PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY" in honor of the sacred memory of those law
enforcement officers who, through extraordinary courage and steadfast devotion to duty, laid down
their lives in service to others, and those who bear lasting wounds sustained in the protection of our
community. On this day, let us bow our heads in gratitude, stand in unity, and pay enduring tribute
to the families and survivors of our fallen heroes, whose sacrifice and strength remain woven into the
fabric of our County.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 17th day of March 2026.
