A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA,
SUNSETTING THE VETERAN'S ADVISORY COUNCIL
CREATED BY RESOLUTION NO. 88-66; PROVIDING FOR
FINDINGS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, adopted
Resolution No. 88-66 on March 15, 1988, creating a Veterans Advisory Council to serve in an advisory
capacity to the Board and to coordinate activities among local veterans' organizations; and
WHEREAS, the Veterans Advisory Council was established to act as an informational
clearinghouse and to provide recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners regarding
veteran's activities within the County; and
WHEREAS, the Board has determined that the Veterans Advisory Council has not met or
functioned in an active capacity since approximately 2012; and
WHEREAS, the Board recognizes that multiple active veterans' organizations and collaborative
efforts currently exist within St. Lucie County that effectively serve in a similar advisory, coordination,
and support capacity for veterans; and
WHEREAS, the continued existence of an inactive advisory body is no longer necessary to
fulfill the intended purpose outlined in Resolution No. 88-66; and
WHEREAS, the Board finds that it is in the best interest of the public to formally sunset and
dissolve the Veterans Advisory Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St.
Lucie County, Florida:
Sunset.
The Veterans Advisory Council created pursuant to Resolution No. 88-66 is hereby sunset and
dissolved.
2. Repeal of Prior Resolution.
Resolution No. 88-66 is hereby repealed in its entirety.
3. Administrative Support.
Any administrative responsibilities previously assigned to the Veterans Service Division in
support of the Veterans Advisory Council are hereby discontinued.
4. Continuation of Services.
Nothing in this Resolution shall be construed to limit or affect the County's continued support of
veterans through its Veterans Services Division or partnerships with local veterans'
organizations.
5. Effective Date.
This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
