A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 2026 AS
"CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH"
IN ST.LUCIE COUNTY,FLORIDA
WHEREAS,the Board of County Commissioners of St.Lucie County,Florida,has made the
following determinations:
1. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States,
and every year thousands of children and their families face the unimaginable challenges of a cancer
diagnosis.
2.Throughout St. Lucie County, courageous children continue to fight childhood cancer with
incredible strength, determination, and hope, while many families endure emotional, physical, and
financial hardships throughout their journey.
3. The memories of the precious children whose lives have been lost to childhood cancer continue
to inspire advocacy, compassion, and the pursuit of better treatments and ultimately a cure.
4. Organizations such as Maddie's Fight Foundation, a St. Lucie County nonprofit founded in
memory of Madison'Maddie'Demers,work tirelessly to provide financial assistance,resources,and
support to families affected by childhood cancer while helping fund pediatric osteosarcoma
research.
5. Increasing public awareness of childhood cancer encourages early detection, supports ongoing
research efforts, and reminds families facing this disease that they are not alone.
6. The residents of St. Lucie County are encouraged to recognize Childhood Cancer Awareness
Month by wearing gold, participating in community awareness activities, supporting local
organizations, and honoring the children who are currently fighting, those who have survived, and
those whose lives have been lost.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St.
Lucie County, Florida does hereby proclaim the month of September 2026 as "CHILDHOOD
CANCER AWARENESS MONTH" in St. Lucie County, Florida and encourages all citizens to
join in recognizing the courage of children battling cancer, supporting their families, honoring the
memories of those we have lost, and working together toward a future free of childhood cancer.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 1st day of September 2026.
