A RESOLUTION OF THE ST. LUCIE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS SUPPORTING THE "ELDER READY FLORIDA"
INITIATIVE, AND EXPRESSING ITS INTENT TO MAKE ST. LUCIE
COUNTY AN EI,DER READY COMMUNITY.
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Horida,
supports the Department of Elder Affairs' initiative to make Horida Elder Ready, so that
elders can maintain their independence, remain in their own homes, and actively participate
in their own communities as long as possible; and,
WHE~, the State of Florida has the highest percentage of elders of any state in
the nation, and the elder population will continue to increase over the coming years; and
WHE~, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida
recognizes the value and benefits ofintergenerational connectivity and interdependence; and
WHEREAS, the ability of elder citizens to maintain their dignity, security and
independence is supported by communities which evaluate, plan and modify their
infrastructures to accommodate the needs of their elders; and
WHEREAS, St. Lucie County's vision of sustainability is grounded in principles
consistent with those of an Elder Ready Community,; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of County
Commissioners and Staff of St. Lucie County, Florida will work with our community
parmers and elder citizens to embark on an assessment of our infrastructure and practices,
and subsequent planning and modifications with the intent of becoming an Elder Ready
Community:
