HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-226RESOLU3'ZON NO. 02-226 A RESOLU'rlON REPEALZN6 RESOLUTION NO. 02-199: DIRECTZN6 AN ELECTION BE HELD TO PROVIDE FOR THE PLACEMENT OF A C~UESTZON CONCERNIN6 THE CREATION OF A COUNTY-WIDE MUNICIPAL SERVICES TAXIN6 UNIT FOR PARKS AND OPEN SPACE ON THE NOVEMBER 5, 2002 6ENERAL ELECTION BALLOT WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made the following determinations: 1. Section 125.01{y), Florida Statutes, provides the Board of County Commissioners may place questions or propositions on the ballot at any primary election, general election or otherwise called special election so as to obtain an expression of elector sentiment with respect to matters of substantial concern within the County. 2. This Board believes that providing for placement of a question concerning the creation of a County-wide municipal services taxing unit to acquire additional park land and open space, enhance environmentally sensitive land trails and improve and construct parks on the General Election Ballot on November 5, 2002, is in the best interest of the public health, safety and welfare of the citizens of St. Lucia County, Florida. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucia County, Florida: 1. Resolution No. 02-199 is hereby repealed effective immediately. 2. This Board does hereby direct the Supervisor of Elections to place on the November §, 2002 General Election Ballot the following proposition to be voted upon by the electors of St. Lucia County: OFFICIAL BALLOT ST. LUCIE COUNTY Park Referendum November 5, 2002 TO ACC~UIRE ADDITIONAL PARK LAND AND OPEN SPACE, ENHANCE ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE LAND TRAILS, IMPROVE AND CONSTRUCT PARKS, SUBJECT TO REVIEW BY AN APPOINTED cI'r'ZZENS COMMITTEE AND ANNUAL AUDIT, SHALL ST. LUCIE COUN'rY CREATE A COUNTY-WIDE MUNICIPAL SERVICES TAXING UNiT (MSTU) AND WITHIN SUCH UNIT LEVY AD VALOREM TAXES UP TO :~ MILL PER ANNUM FOR A PERIOD NOT EXCEEDING 20 YEARS?
