A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER
21, 2002, AS "POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY"
IN ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida, has made
the following determinations:
1. The United States has fought in many wars, and this year marks the twenty-seventh year
since the end of the Vietnam War.
2. The Florida State Council of VietnamVeterans of America has proclaimed September 21,
2002 as the official POW/MIA Recognition Day as a day of remembrance for those who suffered
as prisoners of war or are still missing as a result of the Vietnam War.
3. At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 21,2002, the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter
566, St. Lucie County, will be having the Twelfth Annual POW/MIA Recognition Candlelight
Service at Veterans' Memorial Park on Midport Road in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
4. This Board believes all Americans should recognize the special debt we owe our fellow
citizens who, in the act of serving our Nation, relinquished their freedom so that we may enjoy the
blessings of peace and liberty.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of St.
Lucie County, Florida:
1. This Board does hereby proclaim September 21,2002, as "POW/MIA RECOGNITION
DAY" in St. Lucie County, Florida.
2. This Board urges the citizens of St. Lucie County to attend the Twelfth Annual POW/MIA
Recognition Candlelight Service on September 21,2002 at 7:30 p.m. at the Veterans' Memorial Park
on Midport Road in Port St. Lucie Florida, to pay tribute to the POW/MIA's of the Vietnam War,
and all prior wars.
PASSED AND DULY ADOPTED this 17th day of September, 2002.
